Hospital management of viral encephalitis in adults.

 Herpes simplex virus (HSV)/ varicella zoster virus (VZV)

  • If viral encephalitis is proven due to HSV/VSV then treat with Aciclovir 10mg/kg tds for 14-21 days (oral therapy is not appropriate).
  • If the diagnosis is not proven then length of treatment should be discussed with Infectious diseases/ microbiology
